While preparing for a big move, you may be wondering how to safely pack different items in your kitchen while saving space and money. If so, use the three tips below to use items you may already have.
Use Socks To Cushion Drinkware
For your glasses, cups, and stemware, use socks to cushion and protect them. Not only does this keep the drinkware from clinking together and potentially cracking, but it also saves space when you pack up your clothes.
To wrap each piece, place the glass or cup with the bottom down towards the toe. Pull the open end up towards the opening in the glass, then gently place the excess inside. Repeat for each glass or cup, and lay them next to each other in the box. For each layer, put a kitchen towel in between the rows to give the items extra protection.
Pack Your Spices And Cooking Ingredients Inside Large Bowls Or Small Appliances
Instead of using up an entire box just for your spices and other cooking essentials, pack them inside large bowls that do not stack with your other cookware. This keeps you from wasting the empty space, as well as keeps your spices, oils, and baking ingredients together.
You can also use the inside of small appliances. Small spice jars fit well inside a slow cooker, while taller bottles of oils can fit inside a toaster oven when they are laid on their sides.
Wrap Your Dishes In Phone Book Pages
Especially if you are moving to a new city, you probably will not need your old phone book. Instead of throwing it out, tear out the pages to wrap some of your dishes, such as plates, bowls, and platters.
When wrapping the items, place two loose pages on a table, then set the dish in the center. If it is too wide, pull the pages out to expand to just a little past the edges. Then, fold the pages up, and cover the top of the dish with two more pages. If needed, use plastic tape to secure the ends around the piece. After wrapping each individual one, stack your dishes inside a box.
The tips above are only a few ideas on how to pack your kitchen in preparation for your move. If you are in need of any specific tips, you may want to contact the movers who are helping you to discuss your questions or concerns.
